The landscape has shifted in the municipal market. Once the sleepy backwater of the financial services world, the municipal bond market has been in the crosshairs of the SEC and MSRB as evidenced by new rules and new initiatives focused on protecting investors and enhancing transparency. This in a market that, while incredibly large ($3.7 trillion) and critical to the workings of State and local governments, has managed to avoid the wrath of the regulators and media until relatively recently.
